A Beautiful Surprise Proposal in Kyoto Nijo Castle

Caputured a Surprise Proposal at Kyoto Nijo Castle

Hello everyone!
Today, I’m excited to share a recent surprise proposal shoot we had the pleasure of photographing at Nijo Castle in Kyoto.
First, let’s hear from our clients.

Masa was incredible in every way. Very communicative prior to the trip and during the shoot as well. He accomodated us despite the weather being a bit rainy and knew how to get the shots we wanted.

Vacation Cover: The Game Plan

The game plan was a “vacation cover” — a photoshoot that began as a regular vacation session, with him suddenly proposing halfway through. While this approach may slightly reduce the element of surprise, it provides a sense of comfort for the couple and allows the photographer to carefully adjust locations and give directions for the best shots. The biggest advantage is that your partner has time to be prepared for the photos, making the experience more relaxed and enjoyable.

Rest assured, we will discuss the game plan in detail before the shoot to create a plan that meets your satisfaction.

The shoot itself begins as a casual sightseeing photo session, so there will be some initial photos taken at the start.
Once you’re ready, or when you arrive at the pre-designated spot, the proposal will begin suddenly.

We capture everything that happens. This is your private moment — we don’t give directions, but simply document what unfolds naturally, in a documentary style.

Depending on the location, people around you may cheer, applaud, or offer congratulatory words — and that’s part of the charm of a proposal!

A Magical Moment

Although it was a rainy day, the rain eased just in time, adding a soft and romantic touch to the moment. It was truly a magical day, and we’re honored to have been part of such a special memory.

Nijo Castle, located in the heart of Kyoto, is a historic UNESCO World Heritage site built in 1603 as the residence of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the first shogun of the Edo period. The castle is famous for its beautiful gardens, elegant architecture, and the “nightingale floors” that chirp when walked upon to warn of intruders. It’s a popular spot for sightseeing, cultural experiences, and memorable photography.
