A Solo Portrait Session in Kyoto
A story from a solo portrait session in Higashiyama, Kyoto this fall.
The client, a woman visiting from the US, wanted natural, portrait-style photos. We walked through Higashiyama in that soft November light, taking our time with the shoot.
One of the nice things about solo sessions is the chance for real conversation. We chatted along the way — sharing sightseeing tips and bits of Japanese culture — while capturing natural, relaxed expressions. It made for a set of images that felt more like true portraits, different in feel from a family or couple vacation shoot.
If you're looking for portraits that feel like you during your time in Kyoto, a solo session like this is a great way to go.

“Masa was so easy to work with, he makes you feel at ease and gives you the freedom to explore and pick sites during your session so your photos look very natural.
He will also tell you about the local area, and provided fantastic recommendations for after the shoot! I can’t recommend Masa enough, would book again in a heartbeat!”
